Show Senate passes amendment to aid mining The Senate has passed a beryllium depletion tax allowance allow-ance amendment, clearing another an-other hurdle for the potential start of a beryllium industr3r m West Central Utah, according accord-ing to Senator Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah), sponsor of the legislation. The measure in the form of an amendment to an insurance in-surance tax bill, was approved unanimously. It would give a 23 per cent depletion tax allowance to all beryllium minerals. The depletion de-pletion allowance for beryllium minerals is 15 per cent which is in contrast with a 23 per cent allowance for beryl ores. The amendment would give the same treatment to beryllium minerals as now applies to beryl, Sen. Bennett explained. The Utahn, who is a member mem-ber ,of the Senate Finance Committee, presented his beryllium ber-yllium proposals to the committee com-mittee earlier this month. He said "There has been increased in-creased interest in Utah over prospects of a beryllium industry in-dustry and this action by the senate increases the chances of creating that industry." He said the bill now must clear one additional hurdle a Joint House and Senate Conference Con-ference Committee. He expres sed "hope" that it would pass there too. He said that Beryllium is found in many proportions of West Central Utah. |
