Show Senator disagrees with court ruling Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R-Utah) (R-Utah) said in the Senate today to-day that one effect of the recent re-cent Supreme Court reapportionment reappor-tionment decision "will be to throw the control of State legislatures leg-islatures into the hands of corrupt cor-rupt city political machines The Utahn joined in supporting sup-porting a Senate Joint Resolution Reso-lution proposing an amendment to the Constitution overturning the recent Supreme Court State Legislature Reapportionment Reapportion-ment decision. Sen. Bennett said, "The effect ef-fect of this arbitrary ruling is to sap local initiative both at the State and local level. It will encourage party gerrymandering. gerry-mandering. It stiffles the value val-ue of local individuality and initiative in-itiative by compelling all legislatures leg-islatures to be poured into a common mold. It likely will result re-sult in the neglect of rural areas ar-eas and small cities and suburbs sub-urbs of larger cities throughout through-out a large majority of our states." He said "The exercise of judicial ju-dicial lawmaking by the Court represent a basic frontal attack at-tack on our form of government. govern-ment.
