Show Mapleton Mews Mrs. Blake Everett Phone 489-4837 Mr. and Mrs. Dan Carly have just returned from a six week's vacation in Italy. Mr. Carley was born in Italy, but left there to come to America bells can be heard most any time of day. They ring to give the time and also tell of good news or bad. They brought back some beautiful souvenirs including a chiming clock and some outfits out-fits for her grandchildren like the ones used in climbing the Swiss Alps. They took many colored slides and are anxiously waiting to have them developed. Mr. ailU iVIIO. aiij en- py that they live in America. They said they would not want to live in Italy, but it is a most beautiful and exciting country to visit. They hope to be able to go there again some day. Mapleton Ward Cub Scout Pack meeting was held May 27. The theme was "Early Americans." Ameri-cans." The boys put on skits and dances and sang some Indian In-dian songs. They were dressed in Indian costumes. Next month the Pack meet-nig meet-nig will be held on June 24, at the park at 6 p.m. It is hoped that all boys and their parents will attend and join in the fun. They spent most of their time in Cabiola Village, which is located in the Dolomite Alps. Mr. Carly's mother, Mrs. Teresa Ter-esa Carly and his sister, Mrs. Alba Fenti, live in this little Village. It was the first time he had seen his mother since 1948 and he had not seen his sister in 37 years. Their town was completely destroyed during dur-ing World War II, and has all been newly rebuilt. The Carlys gave an interesting interest-ing description of their visit to Langarone where the big Viont Dam, which overflowed last year, killing so many people, was located. They also went to the Po Valley, where they saw the big industrial cities of Milan and Turin. This is where the Fiat cars are made; and to the Piedmont Valley up near the Swiss Alps, to see some of Mrs. Carly's relatives. Mapleton Second Ward held their closing social of Relief Society last week. After the lesson given by Zora Hales, a Literature play was presented. The play was a brief review of the past six years of American Ameri-can Literature. Those taking part were: Alberta Banks, Marie Ma-rie Morgan, Beverly Walker, Helen Wiscombe, Mabel Han- sen, LaRae . Anderson, Zora Hales and Bernice Everett. Following the play, Luella Wilson showed many of the souvenirs that she and her husband hus-band brought back from Hawaii. Ha-waii. She was dressed in a pretty Hawaiian gown and sang several of the native songs, accompanying herself on the ukele. The Wilsons were in Hawaii for 33 months on a work mission and had many wonderful experiences. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Wright have had several visitors this past week; their son,. Phil and his family from Reno, Nevada, and Mrs. Wright's sister and family from Tempe, Arizona. Mapleton Ward Relief Society So-ciety held a mother's and daughter's party, Wednesday. It was in the form of a style show, with most of the things being made by the mothers or daughters. A humorous skit showing some of the style changes from the cavmaen up to the present time was given. Mr. and Mrs. Don Robertson, Vaughn Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. Milan Packard, Alton Packard, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ruff, Mr. and Mrs. Evans Carlen, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Allred and son, Bill, were those from Springville who enjoyed the friendship cruise down the Green River and up the Colorado River, during the Memorial weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Lewis (Loya Nielson) of Chicago, spent the past week visiting at the home of Mrs. Lewis' parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nielson Niel-son and other friends here and in Provo. Mr. Lewis has a brother, Ben, living in Provo. Mrs. Louise Wiscombe of Salt Lake City is visiting with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Wiscombe. Sunday evening the entire family and Mrs. Nell Wiscombe went to Provo to sacrament services, where Mr. and Mrs. Vern Dixon Dix-on were honored before leaving leav-ing for a work mission to Hawaii. Ha-waii. They visited in the Dixon Dix-on home after meeting. LaiRaine and Scot Wetherell and two children of Nephi jau. jo s;san3 Jauutp sin saaA parents, Mr. and Mrs. Blake Everett last week. The dinner was in honor of LaRaine's birthday. The family enjoyed a boat ride on Utah Lake while they were here. Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Moon 1 had all of their family home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rich-ard M. Sheeley (Carol) and daughter came from New York. Mr. Sheeley came especially for graduation from the BYU last Friday, where he received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry. He is employed at the Lederle Laboratories at Pearl River doing his research in medicine. medi-cine. Other family members included in-cluded Mr. and Mrs. Glade (Marilyn) Hall and three children. chil-dren. Mr. Hall, who also visited visit-ed his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hall, is teaching at the institute of religion at Thatcher, Thatch-er, Arizona. He will remain to work on his Ph.D. during the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Moon and two sons Richard and John will spend the summer at their ranch in Tabiona. John recently recent-ly returned from a mission in New England. A home town booster is a man that helps make his home town better as well as bigger. Old age pensions wall give young persons the opportunity to work harder for older persons. |
