Show Keep your smile, take care of teeth, is theme "Keep Your Smile Take Care of Your Teeth." This National Children's Dental Den-tal Health Week theme will be actualized this month by the Utah State Dental Association via sponsor-ship of "smile contests" con-tests" among senior high school students throughout Utah. Dr. Alfred Ridge Jr., Provo, president of the state dental association announced today that for the first time the US DA will sponsor contests in its seven dental districts (headquartered (head-quartered in Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo, Price, Richfield and Cedar City) to name the young lady with the most beautiful smile (resulting from good care of teeth) in each district high school's health and hygiene department. School winners will then compete on a district level to name a "Miss Smile," to represent rep-resent each dental society in its local observance of Dental Health Week, Feb. 2-8. Then a "Utah Miss Smile" will be named from among district winners during the annual US DA convention in Salt Lake City in April, Dr. Ridge said. Object of the contest, the USDA official explained, is to "encourage and reward good dental hygiene and the resulting result-ing beautiful smile" as part of the associations current statewide state-wide program, being conducted in cooperation with the Utah State Department of Public Instruction and KUED, to bring educational information on preventative dentistry into classrooms from kindergarten through high school. While "Miss Smile" contests will add to the interest in dental den-tal health on the high school level, Dr. Ridge said, a "color and learn" contest will be conducted con-ducted during" Children's Den- tal Health Week in elementary grades. Dental auxiliaries will distribute the coloring sheets to schools during the Week, and youngsters will be encouraged en-couraged to take them home to learn about their teeth and enter en-ter the contest. Dr. Ridge noted that elementary ele-mentary students will have until un-til March 1 to complete their entries in the coloring contest, but high school "Miss Smile" contests must be completed before be-fore January 27 . when district winners will be guests at the annual Mid-Winter Banquet of the State Dental Association in Salt Lake City.
