Show Oyer 14 million vsiis made to national forests An estimated 14,200,000 vis-ts vis-ts were made to the National forests of the Intermountain legion last year, Regional For- i;ster Floyd Iverson announced :oday. These visits were made o the 526 campgrounds, 160 icnic sites, 77 organization camps, 48 hotels, lodges, and resorts, numerous recreation residences, swimming and boating sites, winter sports sites, observation sites, 7 wilderness, wil-derness, wild and primitive areas, ar-eas, and other areas of the 18 National Forests in the Intermountain Inter-mountain Region. Nearly one-half of the use 1 (6,000,000 visits) was made of 1 National Forest campgrounds and picnic sites. Overnight 1 stays at campgrounds or short ! restful visits to simple picnic facilities were the most popular popu-lar type visits. The next most popular purpose pur-pose of visit was general enjoyment en-joyment and sightseeing. Driving Driv-ing for pleasure and simple activities were responsible for some 3,600,000 visits. Hunting aind fishing on the National Forests of the Intermountain Inter-mountain Region were responsible respon-sible for an estimated 2,800,000 visits, or 20 per cent of the total recreation use. For the first time on record, estimated fishing visits to the National Forests exceeded 2,000,000 visits. vis-its. The trend of recreation use is upward, Mr. Iverson said, with total estimated visits in 1963 eight per cent about the 1962 reported use.
