Show SUSC women cagers may surprise opponents CEDAR CITY - More experience and some promising new talent brighten the outlook for this year's Southern Utah State College women's basketball team. All five starters, plus one player who was starting when an injury ended her season, will be back for the Thunderbird women. A number of new recruits also are potential starters this year for new coach Boyd Adams. Returning are starters Paula Burgoyne (17.5 ppg, 10.8 rpg) at center; forward Lisa Stolk (14.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg); forward Cheryl Lamb (6.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg); guard Brenda Thompson (6.3 ppg, 2.3 rpg); and guard Denice Long (9.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg). Gloria Grover, who was starting as forward before an old injury was aggrevated Twill also return. "Our experience will be much better than last year when there were so many new and young players," Adams evaluated. "With the transfers and freshmen scheduled in, we should be much more competitive com-petitive this season than we were last year." SUSC finished 1981-82 with a dismal 1-15 record. "We have several players, both letter winners and new people who are capable of scoring well; we could surprise some people this season," Adams smiled. |
