The team consisted of Miller, Cook, Lindsey, and Moss. The travel award, for miles traveled to convention con-vention and most in at-tendence, at-tendence, was also awarded to the group. CEDAR CITY - The Iron County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Association made an excellent showing at the recent National Search and Rescue Convention conducted in Salt Lake City June 10-13. Local Search and Rescuers came away from the convention proving their skills, winning trophys and awards and establishing their unit's name very prominently with other rescuers from around the nation. At the convention, several competitions were conducted ranging from pistol shoots to first aid .. competitions. The contests were designed to test the searchers by giving them real life situatuions to see how well equiped they were to perform the necessary skills. Attending the conference con-ference were Russ and Marie Miller, Bob and Debbie Moss, Bob and Geraldine Cook, Kris and LaRayne Lindsay, Ken and Carol Blackner, Ron Olevsky and Stan Adams. During Friday's contests, Kris Lindsay placed second in the sharp shooters pistol competition, and Marie Miller came away with a third in the ladies competition. com-petition. Later in the day, Bob Cook won first and Ron Olevsky took second in the four wheel drive performance ralley in Class C division of short wheel base V-8. On Saturday a i team consisting of Olevsky, Russ Miller, Bob Moss, Cook and Stan Adams, took first place in the mountain climbing rescue. The team had spent well over 150 hours preparing for the event and it paid off with a first. The local search and rescue unit is one of only three in the state equiped to compete in this particular par-ticular contest which consisted of getting to the top of a 90 foot ledge, taking care of a si mula teda cc ident victim and evucating the victim from the ledge. |
