Show 7.1 percent decrease Gas prices down in county Copyright 1982 The Iron County Record This article is the first in a three-part series examining the cost of living in Iron County. The Record prints the series every six months to compare and examine trends county-wide. Today's story looks at Iron County gas prices. By BRUCE LEE Record Editor Whether it is an oil glut in the Mideast, recession or a bad or good turn in the economy, gas prices in Iron County are definitely down since December of 1981. In fact, according to a survey taken June 3 and 4 by the Record staff, gas prices county-wide have dropped an average of 9.75 cents per gallon or 7.1 percent over the six month period. The price of a gallon of regular gas dropped the-most at 11.5 cents or 8.5 percent. The price of unleaded dropped 11.1 cents or 7.9 percent. Premium dropped 10 cents per gallon or 6.9 percent; and diesel dropped only 6.4 cents or 5 percent. Except in the area of diesel fuel prices, those county-wide drops are slightly more than the drops in Cedar City prices alone, meaning that residents of Parowan, Paragonah, Summit and the Beryl-New Castle area not only are generally paying less for gas than Cedar City residents, but they are getting more of a break over six months ago. The only exception to this is in the premium gas prices, where Cedar City residents are still paying one-half of a penny less per gallon. The price of a regular gallon of gas in Cedar City alone was $1.23.9. For unleaded it was $1.29.3. For premium it was $1.34.9, and for diesel fuel it was $1.24.3 p per gallon. Prices for all grades of gasoline, both in Cedar City and county-wide, are also down substantially from one year ago. One year ago, a gallon of regular gas in Cedar City cost $1.33.9. |
