Show Lawsuit against county attorney is dismissed SALT LAKE CITY - A lawsuit filed by a former inmate of the Iron County Jail against County Attorney James L. Shumate has been dismissed by United States District Judge David K. Winder. Sheldon Lynn Shreve had filed the suit earlier this year, after he had been arrested on drug charges and incarcerated in-carcerated in the jail. He claimed that Shumate should have filed charges agaiast sheriff's deputies lor not identifying him properly, according ac-cording to his past criminal record. Thus, he claimed, his bail was set too low and when he didn't appear at court and forfeited the jail money, the loss was caused by the deputies and Shumate. In a decision dated June 2, Judge Winder dismissed the charges as "frivolous." Shreve has also filed a suit against Sheriff Ira Schoppmann and County Commissioenr James L. Clark, claiming that his rights had been violated because of the condition of the old jail. He has asked for $40,000 as damages and in relief. According to Shumate, any action in the Federal District Court on this matter is still pending. |
