Show T-bird volleyballers set to defend title j After compiling seven wins and suffering eight defeats in a tough preconference schedule, the women on Southern Utah State College's volleyball team figure they are ready to defend their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship. The Thunderbirds will get their first chance at conference competition Friday at 7 p.m. in War Memorial Fieldhouse when Fort Lewis College challenges. Saturday at 7 p.m., Western State comes to town to do battle. "I would say that Fort Lewis could be our toughest competition in the western division of the conference this year," Joy Peterson, SUSC coach, says. "Fort Lewis has been building their program, and we expect them to be plenty tough." Last year Southern Utah beat' Fort Lewis three times' in three meetings, but twice, the 'Birds were .forced into extra games before winning their matches. The Raiders fell to SUSC last year in the semifinals of the NAIA District Seven Tournament. "They finished in the top six of this year's 17-team 17-team Regis Tournament," Tour-nament," Coach Peterson points out. |
