Show County Obituaries JOHN ARVIL STAPLEY, 75, of Cedar City, died Friday in the Valley View Medical Center. He was born Aug. 7, 1904 in Inverury, Utah to John Alma and Lucretia Jane Higgius Stapley. He married Elizabeth Pearl Lawrence on July 2, 1934 in Parowan. He was a member of the LDS Church and worked as a watchman for U.S. Steel. Survivors include his wife of Cedar city and one sister, Leola Arthur Anderson of Farmington, Utah. Funeral services were Tuesday at noon in the Cedar 12th LDS Ward Chapel, 79 E. Center Street, with Bishop L. Dee Watson officiating. A viewing was held for friends and neighbors at the Boyer Southern Utah Mortuary. Dedication of the grave was offered by Ernest Lawrence in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of Boyer Southern Utah Mortuary. MARY HAFEN LEAVITT, 102, died July 7 at the home her daughter and son-in-law, Charity and Vernon C. Rowley, from natural causes. She was born November 5, 1877 in Santa i j Clara, Utah, to John j George Hafen and Mary Ann Stucki. She married Dudley Henry Leavitt on Sept. 3, 1895 in the St. George Temple. He passed away on Dec. 2, 1944. Survivors: Six daughters ;Juanita Brooks, Mrs. Vernon (Charity) Rowley, Mrs. J. Carl (Aura) Allen, Mrs. Walter (Eva) Miles, all of St. George; Mrs. Leonard (Daisy) Reber, Mesquite, Nevada, Mrs. Fenton (Mary) Frehner, Mesquite, Nev.; Four sons, Melvin H. Leavitt, Nampa, Idaho, Francis H. Leavitt, Sacramento, Calif. Dudley M. Leavitt, Cedar City, Utah, and Laurel E. Leavitt, Homedale, Idaho three brothers, Dr. Leroy Hafen, Provo, Utah, Charles Hafen, Santa Clara, Walter Hafen, St. George, three sisters, Selena Leavitt, St. George, Lovena Leavitt, Mesquite, Nevada, and Ella Hafen Perkin, Salt Lake City, Utah, 5'5 grandchildren, 241 great grandchldren and 27 great great great grandchildren. grand-children. Mrs. Leavitt was an active member of the LDS Church. During he lifetime she did 6350 endowments , in the Temple. She was leader in the music commuinty. An accomplished quilter and gave away hundreds of quilts during her lifetime. Funeral service were Saturday at 11 a.m. in the St. George East Stake Center, Bishop Stanley Esplin, officiating. Interment was in the Bunkerville Cemetary under the direction of Spilsbury & Graff Mortuary. Mor-tuary. . ' , JOHN ROWBERRY, 71, died July 10 at his home in Cedar City of natural causes. Born June 18, 1909 in Cardston, Canada to Thomas C. and Jane Hartley Rowberry. He married Melva Staley March 27, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Rowberry was a past president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce. He was manager and owner of the Cedar and Parks Theatre and first to bring in television micro-wave to Cedar City. He was a former part owner of the Cedar Crest Motel, the Cedar Bowling Lanes and D. W. Corry Real Estate Co. He is survived by his wife Melva, Cedar City; a son and two daughters: Mrs. Tom (Charlotte) Urie and Ronald John Rowberry both of Cedar City and Mrs. Ray (Gae) Bess of Sandy, Utah. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, grand-children, a brother, H. H. Rowberry of American Fork, Utah, and a sister Charlotte Ellsworth of Reno, Nev. Funeral services were Saturday in the Spilsbury and Graff Mortuary Chapel with Bishop Hal Campbell conducting. Interment was in the Cedar City Cemetery under the direction of the Spilsbury and Graff Mortuary. EBY EDDARDS, 83, of Oroville, Calif, died Sunday in Oroville, Calif. He was born May 30, 1897 in Cedar City to David V. and Emma Elizabeth Clark Eddards. He married Ester Lucille Butcher on May 5, 1928 in Cedar City. He was a member of the LDS Church and a veteran of World War I. He worked for many year in a saw mill. 'Survivors include his wife: two sons Robert and Juan; 14 grandchildren; one brother and three sisters; Fay Eddards of Layton, Utah, Thelma Kelsey of Califoria, Peral Petty and Dean Hunter both of Cedar City. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the LDS Third Ward Chape, 190 N. 300 West. Friends may call Friday at they Boyer Southern Utah Mortuary from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Cedar City . Cemetery under the direction of Boyer Southern Utah Mortuary. |
