Show Perkins seeks school seat "My interest in the progress of the Iron County School District is my primary reason for running," states Marsha A Pprkins as she announces her candidacy for the School Board in Representative Precinct 3. Indicating that she feels that no district should have less than two candidates running, she explains that it shows a lack of interest in what has become very big business. "I believe in the importance of being involved with young people and their future by providing the best possible education we can." She added that the school board should have a generous amont of input from the public and if elected she would try to vote as the majority of the people would wish. Mrs. Perkins indicated that she would like to see some master articles established to help develop the district into a competitive educational system. This would include a plan to move staff members in leadership positions each five years in order to give them time to develop a good program but then move them before they become stale. The master plan would also include sites for building of schools up to 15 years in advance. Continued revamping of the curiculum would be included to tighten the scope and sequence with teachers actively involved in these decisions. Mrs. Perkins is married to Daniel Perkins and they are the parents of mm mm )um,i,,ini.nitnMMn imiwi .Jowi.'""li mm MARSHA PERKINS six children. She is also the Director of Adult Developmentally Disabled Student Programs in the are as a part of the SUSC Volunteer Support Services. Ser-vices. In the summer she directs the program for both Adult and school-age school-age children. "I feel that there is a need for a school board with varied backgrounds. We need to have more people who have children in school. We need good business heads, ana we need common sense. We have some of the finest young people anywhere right here in Cedar City, and we need to make fertile soil for them to grow in. We must not underestimate the need to involve the public in areas where so much of the public dollar is being spent." |
