Show 4 Rolling Rubber holds on to slim lead in Sr. LL baseman Bruce Reber. In the bottom of the 6th UI lengthened their lead with 4 runs as a result of errors by CPN. With 3 games unfinished standings in the league were as follows: Rolling Rubber 5 0 CAPCO 5 1 UI 4 2 Walker Bank 3 4 TWA 3 4 State Bank 2 4 Del Rich 2 4 CPN 1 6 Rolling Rubber squeaked by TWA to an 8-7 victory last week. Leading the scoring effort were Myers, Russum (2), and Ferdinand with doubles. Singles were hit by Myers, Russum, Dean, Barney, and Widick. Hitters for TWA were Davis and Jepson with singles. In the 2nd game of the evening Utah International defeated State Bank 9-6 with Armstrong led the hitting with a triple and 2 RBI's. Singles were hit by Edwards (2 and 1 RBI), Lundberg, and Armstrong. Taylor went the distance on the mound for State Bank with singles being hit by Esplin (2) and Cardon. CPN picked up their first win 6-4 over Walker Bank with Staples going the distance on the mound and B. Whitney behind the plate. Staples and Pickett doubled and Neilson (2)', Pickett and Goulding singled. CAPCO held on to its League lead with a 12-10 victory over State Bank with Craig Soderquist pitching to Evans. Soderquist, Reeves, and Heap doubled and Evans singled. State Bank's pitcher K.C. Jones doubled and singles were hit by Esplin (2), Briggs, and Perkins. Rolling Rubber overcame Del Rich led by the power hitter Jim Russum who put one over the fence for the first home run of the season and an RBI in the first inning. in-ning. S. Leigh and L. Widick also doubled that inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Rolling Rubber's pitcher, Russum and Del Rich's Hulet held each other's teams scoreless in the 2nd inning; but the 3rd inning saw visitors Del Rich trying the score in the top half with 3 runs. Morris singled and Nakken doubled for 2 RBI's. In the bottom half Meyers and Widick singled with one more run coming in to give the home team a 1 pt. lead. In the 4th inning Del Rich remained scoreless while' Rolling Rubber team gained 2 more runs with Shane Leigh getting a triple and Todd Gale doubling. In the top of the 5th Del Rich tied it all up with 3 runs and singles by Hulet and Smith. The bottom of the 5th saw Rolling Rubber's Jim Russum get a double and score on passed balls and errors for the winning run 7-6. 7-6. 1 Walker Bank picked up another win over TWA 14-10 14-10 with Robert Pearson on the mound and J. Waggoner behind the plate. R. Pearson, Pear-son, J. Waggoner, A. Pearson, and R. Anderson. Hitters for TWA were J. Starr (2), R. Roundy (2), S. Hinton, A. Perry, Jepson, M. Adams, and G. Sanders-all with singles. Utah International defeated CPN 11-5 in the final game of the week. At the end of the first inning both teams were scoreless. In the bottom of the 2nd UI's pitcher Val Armstrong walked and scored on passed balls. CPN's first score came in the top of the 3rd resulting from a double by T. Christopher who then came in on an error. Stapels also singled that inning. The bottom of the 4th was a big one for the UI team as they scored 4 with a single by Lundberg. CPN came back to tie up the game in the top of the 4th with 4 runs and a single by Christopher. It was the bottom of the 5th before the tie was broken and then UI jumped out with 2 runs via a single by Smith, hit pitches, walks, and errors. Defensively the UI team played good ball as they kept the CPN team scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings with a couple of double plays involving in-volving catcher Cleve Weaver, Pitcher Armstrong and Brandon Petty and 1st |
