Show Banks Dies in Ca., former city resident Gwendolyn Jones Banks was born in Cedar City, Utah, April 8,1904 to Thomas Willard and Sophia Forsyth Jones. She spent her first few years in the Salt Lake City area while her father attended the University of Utah and worked at Bingham Mines. After her father graduated the family settled on their ranch near New Castle, Utah. Being the eldest child, she was a mainstay on the ranch until her four brothers were old enough to help. She attended at-tended Branch Agriculture College in Cedar City (now Southern Utah State College.) It was there that she met John Raymond Banks of Minersville, an athletic hero at the college They were married in 1923 and had two daughters. Their marriage was a happy one and in 1933 they were sealed in the St. George Temple. The first years were spent in the Milford-Minersville area. After the depression the family moved to Caliente, Nevada. Because of he musical talents she held many positions in the church which she always cheerfully fulfilled. In 1844, Gwen sold her home in Caliente and moved to Cedar City where she managed a drug store. Having a definite talent in management and being eager to progress, she accepted ac-cepted a position with the Utah Department of Taxation in the Capital and moved to Salt Lake City. She later transferred to Hotel Utah where she learned the food service business. She was elected president of the Salt Lake City Business and Professional women's Club While working at Hotel Utah. She moved to Las Vegas, Nev. in 1954,purchased a home and began working as a food checker and cashier. She advanced to the Riviera Hotel where she was employed em-ployed for 17 years until her retirement in 1976 due to ill health. She loved Las Vegas. Gwen passed away May 24, 1 1980 at South Bay Hospital, Redondo Beach, Calif, with both of her daughters at her bedside. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, two brothers, Denton and Robert, and by her beloved husband, Ray. Survivors include two daughters Audrey B. Zitting of Redondo Beach and Lucille B. Price of Goldfield, Nevada; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren grand-children brothers Richard F. Jones and Uriah. Jones of Beryl, Ut. Uncles, Henry L. Jones and Lehi M. Jones of Cedar City, and several nieces and nephews. |
