OTHER BUSINESS The council agreed to get another appraisal of property near the ball park which is considering purchasing. The council will advertise for bid the sale of a used city police car a second time. The council agreed to write a letter to Utah State Firemen's Assn. supporting sup-porting their convention in 1982 being ' held in Cedar City as the request of Fire Chief David Bentley. The council authorized City manager Joe Melling to negotiate the rental of counter space at the city airport to two car rental companies. The council approved the appointments ap-pointments of Roy P. Urie to the planning Commission; the reappointment reap-pointment of Gwen Sandberg and Joseph Gold to the Library Board; and the formation of a Cemetery Committee and the appointments of Lois Woodbury, Harry B. Leigh, Glen Wahlquist and councilman Lee Fife to that committee. The council accepted a bid from the Bravo Corp. for approximately 25.3 acres in the Quitchipa area. The city intends to use the money to purchase additional land to the west side of the valley for future water development. The city agreed to sell property at 200 South 500 East to neighboring property owner Paul Ward for about $2200. The city will retain an easement for its water ditch on the property. The council agreed to hire George N. McDonald, president of Canyon Courts in Salt Lake City, as a consultant con-sultant in the repair and building of several new tennis courts funded through the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. The technical consultation con-sultation is required under the grant's guidelines. The city will pay off a $173,000 budget deficit for this year using anticipated revenue sharing money expected in fiscal year 1980-81. The shortfall in funding is due to the city's portion of payments for Special Improvement No. 1 in the Ridge Road Improvement District area not being budgeted in the fiscal year 1979-80 budget. City Manager Joe Meling explained that the city's bonding company, Burrows Smith of Salt Lake City had said that the city can borrow against bonds to pay off the deficit but that this couuld result in higher bonding rates in the future. "We are running about $400,000, behind the revenues from two years ago. This is primarily because of a reduction in funds flowing from the federal level but also because of inflation in-flation coupled with little increase in property taxes or sales tax.," explained ex-plained melling. City Councilman Harold Hiskey also explained that water and sewer hookup fees are down. Revenue sharing funds will also be used to buy a street sweep, lawn mower for the city cemetary, pick up for the water department and winterizing win-terizing the airport building if sufficient suf-ficient funds are available.. The council will hold a hearing on the 1980-18 budget on June 19. A public hearing will be held on June 19 to consider changing an R3 zone to a highway service zone on Center St. from 150 East to Coal Creek, one lot deep on each side.
