Show Saturday was the first day of Spring and Sunday was testimony, with the warm sun eliminating the need for artificial heat. Residents were out In their yards, sprucing up, and despite the cost of gas, as high as $1.55 some places, many took a drive In the spring air. There is nothing quite like the first day of spring, and that's not the calendar, but the feeling of the warm sun on your shirt sleeves, to perk up your spirits. You can tell it's spring by the ducks and geese making a pit stop at the reservoir on their way north. You can tell it's spring when the farmers take their mornlnf coffee to the field, Instead of at the local pub. - 0 It's spring when the 01' Bedhead gets the urge to go fly a kite. Kite flying is an art. But more than that it's therapeutic. There is time for sitting and reflecting reflect-ing when you're flying a kite. We've flown a kite in a lot . of places, but maybe the most enjoyable was over the ocean. We'd load the kids up and go out as far as we could get on the breakwater. Usinb driftwood for a tall, and a two pound cone of 4 -ply string, we could fly the kite far out over the Pacific, Pa-cific, until it was Just a tiny dot in the sky. Terrific! The kids could hunt the rocks for starfish, crabs and you name It. The first sunburn of the year. So many memories to store. The first picnic of the year. Too cold yet for swimming. And then the climax. The car all loaded, ready to go home, and the ceremony as we cut the string to give the kite it's freedom, to travel as far out to sea as it can. A bottle with a note trailing in the surf, to provide pro-vide just enough drag to keep it flying long after It's out of sight.
