Show ! . j Freedom of the press can be interpreted to mean that anyone may publish a newspaper, news-paper, a newsletter, a magazine, maga-zine, a pamphlet or book without being required to re -ceive approval from any authority. It includes the right to publish facts as well as opinion, and then distribute the publication without interference. To insure in-sure that publications are responsible, laws of libel provide for punishment of false and injurious statements. state-ments. But freedom to speak, broadcast, or publish means that no law can be enacted to exert 'prior restraint' against anyone. Because the U.S. Constitution Consti-tution guarantees freedom of the press, we have more publications on more subjects sub-jects available to us than any citizen of any era has ever enjoyed. |
