Under the Senate language The only hope for Utah and other Western states is to get tough language into the bill now so we will -be protected. We cannot allow the West to become the nuclear nu-clear dumping ground of the nation. Congress can override the state's veto simply by taking no action. That's virtually no veto at all. We are presently dealing with the other extreme. Our current language says that both the House and Senate must override a state veto or the veto holds. That may be a little too restrictive for those who feel there should be a better balance between states rights and the national interest. "I have proposed a compromise com-promise that would require a one House veto of the state's veto. Therefore,the state veto will hold up if neither House votes to over ride it. Thats a better, more logical more balanced approach. |
