About seven local residents, resi-dents, joined by Councilman Maxey, protested the hiring of an inexperienced man, from out of town, when there was a local applicant. Maxey Max-ey presented petitions with 281 signatures of local citizens citi-zens protesting the hiring. The group said that they would not object to hiring outside the community if qualified, trained personnel were hired. However, they felt that the city should give preference to hiring local youth whenever possible. Mayor Young stuck to his decision to hire Hutchison, and said there was nothing personal in his decision, but said he felt his decision was best for the city, and for Les Whitney, the local applicant. Maxey said he could not agree with this decision and walked out of the meeting in protest, and support of the petitioners. He said he'd heard Hutchison did not have a valid drivers license, but a later check when when Hutchison was introduced to (Continued on Page 2) sewer hookup fees for each lot.
