Show odd bridfpdnoo You can fuel some of the cars some of the time, and some of the cars all of the time, but you can't fuel all the cars all of the time, and that's why there's a fuel shortage. An ounce of balsa wood, a piece of illustration board, a few pine blocks and a tube of glue has netted a Parowan High Senior a full tuition scholarship to SUSC. Troy Henlnger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Henlnger, built the bridge to withstand 5,777 newtons pressure. It is the strongest bridge ever built for the SUSC contest. Last year's winner, Scott Adams, also from Parowan, won the contest with a bridge withstanding 2,812 newtons. About four and one half newtons equal one pound of pressure. Second place honors went to Darin Malchus, a senior at Milford High for his bridge, which tested out at 5,716 newtons. Darin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary M. Malchus, of Milford. Nearly 300 bridges were tested, and students from 19 schools participated in the contest. |
