Show CnnA0rt;a t ion NoTei 1 BY BRENT FARNSlORTH CONSERVATION OFFICER FOR . BEAVER COUNTY i Despite the unseasonably warm weather which we all have been enjoying the fall big game seasons are well on their way. The antelope and elk hunts have concluded and the biggest season of all, the general deer hunt, begins Saturday. The antelope hunters had a good hunt on the Southwest Desert Unit, which covers much of the western half of Iron, Beaver and Millard Counties. Final data from the hunt is not in, tho at least 35 permit holders bagged bag-ged their bucks. The elk hunt, which has just concluded has proven to be a difficult one for those hunters in the field. The extremely dry summer conditions con-ditions have kept animals high and in heavy timber. The newly formed Beaver Mountain Elk Unit has provided pro-vided some hard hunting conditions con-ditions for the ten permit holders. The elk on Beaver Mountain moved into the heavy timber prior to the hunt and have been hard to find. Unless someone bagged a bull close to press time, the number of successful hunters on this unit remains at four of the ten. The general deer season, which gets underway Saturday, Satur-day, October 20th, could also prove to be a difficult hunt. The extremely dry weather, which provided for a hard elk hunt, persists, and will also make deer hunting conditions con-ditions difficult. Access Into the high country will be at its best, the deer are extremely high, well scattered scat-tered and generally found in the heavy timber. Tho the number of deer in the Beaver Mountains and the Cunningham Cunning-ham area appears to be up, finding that buck could be quite a task. General rules hunters should be aware of are: 1: A tag must be attached to the deer at time and place of kill. This requires the tag to be detatched from the license li-cense and validated (month, date and sex punched out) ! prior to attaching to the aniy j mal. fj : 2. Shoot only at animals which are certain to be i bucks. A shoot now, look for antlers later attitude will only further deplete our deer j herds. 3. Leave evidence of sex (head or sex organs) attached attach-ed to the carcass 4. In transporting another's an-other's deer, the one transporting trans-porting must be accompanied by the license and a note signed by the one who took the animal and includes date of kill, location of kill, species spe-cies and sex, where animal was shot, where animal is to be taken, and the name of person transporting the animal. ani-mal. 5. It is prohibited to shoot from or carry a loaded firearm fire-arm IN or ON a vehicle.. 6. If you were successful and bagged a buck, you may continue to hunt with others, but only If you leave your rifle in camp or at home. |
