Show Pino nut piefiin fair this year Pine nut gatherers will have to work hard this year to find the tasty nut in most areas of Utah, according to a report from BLM. Field surveys indicate a generally general-ly poor crop. The harvest period is usually usu-ally after the first frost, which causes the cones to open and makes it easier to get at the nuts. No permits are needed to gather pine nuts for personal use. The outlook for our part of the state Is poor and very spotty. BLM suggests that people could make their outing dual purpose by collecting firewood fire-wood on the same trip. Free permits and maps of the firewood fire-wood areas may be obtained by phone, mail or in person at the Cedar City Office, 586-2458. |
