Show Stake Confab Ronald E. Poelman, of the First Quorum of Seventy, was the visiting General Authority at the Beaver Stake Conference on Saturday and Sunday, January 27 and 28. The conference theme, developed de-veloped by the speakers was centered around the life and teaching of the Savior. Elder Poelman shared his testimony of the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ. He came to know this by reading read-ing and studying the life of Jesus as found in the four gospels, through fervent prayer and keeping the com -mandments. He said the Savior becomes personal to Ous when we follow these steps. He emphasized that the Savior is waiting for us at the top of the mountain where the view is Celestial. This should be the goal of all, nothing less. He also told of the great teachings of love which the Savior brought and His admonition ad-monition that we all should love one another. Elder Poelman said that love should reign in the home, that love is much more effective ef-fective than fear and when the Holy Spirit penetrates our hearts change comes about and the spirit of love pours out. Regional Representative Conrad Hatch spoke at both sessions of conference. He spoke of the love Jesus has for all, that His is a gospel of Love. Love is the greatest great-est commandment of all. He quoted from the Gospel of John when the Savior said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." Elder Hatch then asked the question which he said should be uppermost up-permost in everyone's mind. "How serious am I in living the commandment of love?" and then referred to the Atkin. They spoke of the effect the programs of the Church had upon their lives and the blessings they enjoy through endeavoring to live the teachings of the Savior. A special youth session was held Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. Elder Poelman presided and was the speaker. speak-er. The meeting was conducted con-ducted by Fenton Thompson. The music was directed by Laura Bradshaw, accompanied ac-companied by Rollo Sears. Prayers were given by Lori Jacobsen and Jeff Hiatt. A special musical number "I Owe You" was rendered by Bruce Carter, Tracy Davis, Eddie Smith, Mike Fuller, Jan Gale, Verlane Smith, Melora Webster and Jill Burger, accompanied by Anita Stucki. Those released from Stake positions were: Chase Mur-dock Mur-dock as Stake Historian; Alan Hutchings as High Councilman; Council-man; and Lynn Haslem as alternate High Councilman. Those released from Stake positions were: Chase Mur-dock Mur-dock as Stake Clerk; Leo White from the High Council and Alan Hutchings as an alternate al-ternate High Councilor. Those sustained were: Leo White as Stake Clerk; Chase Murdock as Stake Historian; His-torian; Alan Hutchings as a High Councilman; and Lynn Haslem as an alternate High Councilman. The special music on Saturday evening was furnished fur-nished by a Stake Cultural Arts women's chorus under the direction of Gayle Gale, accompanied by Beth Edwards. Ed-wards. Sunday, the Beaver Second Ward Choir, directed by Donna Cartwright and accompanied ac-companied by Glenna Bradshaw Brad-shaw and Julie Williams, sang two selections. Prayers for the conference con-ference were given by La-vern La-vern Bradshaw, Karen Gale, Clinton Bond and M.J.Warr. Sermon on the Mount. Elder Hatch said that home is the laboratory of life. It is here that the beautiful beauti-ful things such as love and harmony are tested. He also stated that respect and love must be shown in the home by all members of the family and that fault-finding is not in harmony with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. President Nielson in addressing ad-dressing the conference, beautifully portrayed the life of Christ as recorded in the New Testament. He told of the last supper, the washing of feet by the Savior, the institution of the sacrament, the time in the Garden of Gethsemane, the betrayal, the trial, the cruci -fiction and the resurrection of the Savior. He bore witness wit-ness to the divinity of His mission, that He lives and will come again as foretold in the scriptures. In the Sunday morning session, ses-sion, President Nielson compared the attainment of spiritual goals and rewards to the beauties that are seen as one goes up Beaver Canyon. Can-yon. Of the beauty of each landmark and then of the breath-taking awesomeness of the sight at the top of the mountain. He said that no one should settle for less than the highest degree in the Kingdom of God, where the beauties of eternity are like the view from the top of the highest plateau. President Van Tassell spoke about some of the great teachings of the Savior. He related the incident of the walking upon the waters and of the doubt that Peter had when he endeavored to do the same. He pointed out that one should not doubt, that when we doubt not and have faith in Christ, we then become true disciples and receive of His fulness. He stated that now is the day to prepare to meet God. That in doing so one should be his brother's keeper and quoted the Savior that "Not everyone that saith Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but he that doeth the will of his Father in Heaven." President Morgan referred refer-red to the 110th Anniversary Anniver-sary of the organization of Beaver Stake and the com -memorative activities that have been held. He stated that it is hoped that President Presi-dent Kimball will be able to visit the stake in March. This will be the highlight of the year long commemoration. commem-oration. He paid tribute to the pioneers who settled this Stake and made possible the blessings that are now so evident. President Morgan referred refer-red to his concern for the proper training of children in the home. He said surveys sur-veys show that for every 10 hours spent in school, the average child spends 18 hours watching television. He stated that more time should be spent in family activities. Elder Cullen Carter, recently returned missionary, mission-ary, who served in California, Cali-fornia, expressed his gratefulness grate-fulness for havingthe opportunity oppor-tunity to be a missionary.
