Show 5s cmrarpcn)D''Q"3irD'Q" Western Beaver County will get another chance in November to vote on the Fire District mill levy. Two years ago, Fire District I passed a maximum levy of two mills. District II did not pass it. The importance of a favorable vote in this election cannot be underestimated. A favorable vote will not raise taxes, but will set a maximum levy that can be put on the district for fire protection. At present the County Commission has a two mill levy on the whole county. However, there are no limits as to the amount the county can levy for fire protection in this fashion, but they must levy the same number of mills on the whole county. A favorable vote, would set a maximum max-imum of two. mi lis that could be levied for fire protection. It will also let the two fire districts set different mill levies according to their needs. In other words if District II decided that only one mill was necessary for operation and maintenance of their district, if a favorable vote is cast, it would then be possible to reduce the levy in that district. ' A favorable vote would allow the districts dis-tricts to set their own mill levy, according to the needs of the particular district, up to the maximum of two mills. Presently, the county levies two mills across the county. The present levy is divided according accord-ing to the valuation in each district and Advisory Boards for each district decide on the priorities in each district, on which the money should be spent. District II includes all Western Beaver County, from Minersville Reservoir west, with the line running north and south along the top of the Mineral Range. At present both districts are using the two mills. But District I has nearly completed their new fire house, and District Dis-trict II has updated their equipment, in-, in-, eluding new sirens for both Milford and Minersville, paid off the fire trucks and generally brought most equipment up to snuff. But in the near future, either district could decide that their needs were less and want to reduce the levy. Unless there is a favorable vote in the next election, it will be necessary for them to agree on the amount of the levy. If District II votes favorable in November, each district can then levy independent of the other. The COUNTY NEWS urges a favorable vote for the Fire District "maximum" levy in District II, in November. "Red" |
