Show . Well, let's see what's to write about this week. The school issue is dead or proably will be by the time this gets to press. City Council hasn't met yet and the County Commis-, Commis-, sioners are at a standoff with BLM. Looks like the federal feder-al bureaucrats may overlook the slight trespass at the County Fair site. - 0 - Sen. Hatch is fighting the Canal giveaway with every ounce of his fiber; Sen.Garn is introducing legislation to return public lands to the states; and Cong. Marriott is preparing legislation to repeal the Organic Act; and Mo Udall could do no better bet-ter than a time worn joke after we gave PLUC testimony testi-mony at Grand Junction. - 0 - Now anytime you can catch Udall off balance, you've accomplished ac-complished something. The best he could do after PLUC received rousing applause from the 150 odd present in Grand Junction, was offer this story about the Congressman Con-gressman who received an irate phone call from a constituent, con-stituent, who after cussing him up and down, said, "Letter "Let-ter to follow." 0 - Udall got the message that PLUC means business, and he wasn't about to challenge us. We'd hoped he'd ask us who some of the major organizations organiza-tions backing PLUC were. We'd have loved to told him ASMOA. The Arizona Small Mine Operators Assn. is the group that led the fight to recall Mo, and are leading the fight to defeat him in the coming election. - 0 A headline in the Deseret News Monday said, "Cloud Seeding Pays Off In Utah." We'd like to say, "Prove It." First off, if they do, it will open the way for massive law suits in California where some say cloud seeding caused the massive flooding this winter. - 0 -Frankly, we'd like to see some proof! We read the news releases, the monthly and quarterly reports, the annual anaylsis and fill out the questionnairs, but damned damn-ed if we have ever seen any evidence that those dollars In chemicals we toss into the sky, have ever produced anything any-thing more than a need for more tax dollars to back them up. Proponents point to the moisture already received this year and take credit, but, who's to say, we wouldn't have gotten every drop every flake, without the cloud seeding. - 0 -Old-timers and weather statistics will indicate that weather of all kinds run in cycles. Cloud seeders admit ad-mit that they can't make it rain more only in different differ-ent places. This means that there is only so much moisture moist-ure in those clouds, and if they drop it over one area, it won't be available where it would drop naturally. Several law suits are pending on this very issue. Beaver County has participated par-ticipated in the cloud seeding program for years. This winter is the first evidence that it might be paying off. We wonder? - 0 - At least with the old medicine med-icine man, if your aches and pains were still around when he hit town again, you knew he was a fake. But the cloud seeders come back for a hand out each year and we mostly get the same old run around, without knowing what we're getting for our money. - 0 - Hurry and write those letters let-ters on the Milford Weather Station. The COUNTY NEWS received word Tuesday that there is a good chance the closure will be review closure will be reviewed In the next couple of weeks. Write Sen. Gam and Sen. Hatch at Box 99, Cedar City, Utah and Cong. Marriott at Box 667, Cedar City. Cong. McKay can be reached at the U. S. House of Representatives, Representa-tives, Longworth Bldg., Washington, D.C. 20015. Remember, you're not alone. Your letters do help. |
