Show It's called cooperation! Another big holiday weekend Is over. Milford had a big day Monday, with parade and festivities. They completed a successful race meet earlier. Beaver completed a successful three -day race meet, parade, barbecue, bike race and other festivities. On July 4th, Miners -ville had a big celebration with parade and the works. Before that, the Beaver Jaycees Race Meet. None of these things just happened. Any community function needs three things to be successful. First, there must be a sponsoring organization. Second, and just as important, is the support of the community. com-munity. The third necessary Ingredient Is participants and spectators. Eliminate any one of these ingredients and the celebration Is a failure. Success depends upon each segment doing its share. Let any group function at less than expected and the success of the whole festival is de-j de-j creased in direct relationship to the mal function. I It's odd, but often the three ingredients work separately each going their own way often not knowing that they are dependent de-pendent upon one and another for success. The sponsoring organization has the biggest job. Hundreds, even thousands, of hours of work go into the preparation. Like a cook who spends hours preparing a lavish dinner, only to have it eaten in a few minutes. Community support comes In many forms. But often it comes In the form of donations, which give the sponsoring organization or-ganization the funds to provide the enter - tainment. This Is necessary, whether the entertainment is horse racing, a dance, j talent show, or whatever. It also is present in floats for a parade, prizes for kids' races, a free swim, complimenting concessions or functions. Participants and spectators come in many forms. They're the most fickle of all. Too much wind, a little rain, too hot, too cold, a fast track, a slow track, almost anything can keep them away. But without participants there would be no horses or jockeys, no foot races or egg throwers, no floats or programs. Without spectators, there would be little need for any of the above. Ironically, these Ingredients for a successful suc-cessful celebration don't know very much about each other. Almost everybody thinks the sponsor is in it for the money. Actually, without the donations, they wouldn't make a profit. Often they dont, anyway. But even if they, do, all profits are returned to the community com-munity two -fold, along with thousands of volunteer hours to make the dollars stretch. The sponsors, participants and spectators spec-tators think the donations of community supporters is advertising. Actually, it's the most expensive and worst advertising they could buy. Their donations are just that, and made in support of the community. communi-ty. Spectators and participants have got the best of it. Mostly they do what they do just because they want to. Most horses eat more than they win. Most floats cost more than the prize. But without them the event would fail. Beaver County is fortunate to have enough of each ingredient most of the time. And while each function has varying degrees of success certainly none this year could be termed a failure . There is just one more celebration planned in Beaver County this year. The Beaver County Fair. Because it is the only county -wide function, it requires a wider base, provided by the County Commission and the County Fair Board. They look to the rest of the county for community support, sup-port, participants, and spectators. It will take everyone of you to make the County Fair a success, August 11-12-13, in Minersville. The sponsors have planned and done their part. Plan now to do yours! It's called cooperation. "Red" |
