Show Board hires toachGrs. taelila district nrobiome Mr. John Prince met with the Board and offered to paint the two high school gymnasium outer walls for $7935. The materials would cost $2415 and the labor $5520. He would use two coats of Olympic overcoat, a latex penetrating concrete paint and would guarantee the paint job for 10 years. The Board considered the proposition, but did not approve. ap-prove. Principals Alfred R.Marshall R.Mar-shall and Lee R. Pettey met with the Board to discuss application ap-plication of the new graduation gradua-tion requirements for the ; high schools beginning with ' 1976-1977 school year. Prin-i Prin-i cipal Marshall indicated that the only conflicts he had in the pre -registration was with those students who wanted want-ed to take speech and drama rather than English, when J English is required. Principal Pettey said that this had not been a problem ' in his school, that perhaps he had interpreted the policy a little more liberally. He said that he would recommend recom-mend a language arts and mathematics proficiency test which students must pass to be graduated. These items were discussed in detail. A message from Beaver High School teacher, Michael Breinholt, was received which evaluated the band performance per-formance and thanked the Board for letting his pupils participate in the parade in Disneyland in April. Note was made that of all high schools in Utah, Ricky Jarvis had placed 3rd in State competition in drafting. Jason Ja-son Gale took 4th place in the State drafting competition. Students at Clearfield High School took 1st and 2nd places. plac-es. These two students went to Salt Lake City on the 14th of May to receive awards. The Board discussed the district 'married student policy' and asked the superintendent super-intendent to pursue additional addition-al parent response in a sur vey in the district to get the feeling of more of the people on the policy. Supt. Haslem reported that the gymnasium floor contractors con-tractors have been in the district dis-trict to see what could be done with the Milford gym floor. Samples of the floor ' were taken to show to 3M Company to help them decide what should be done to correct cor-rect the problems in the floor. An answer should be received soon. The Board approved teacher teach-er contracts for Beaverly Ann Ramsey in English in Milford High and Betty Anderson, An-derson, in homemaking, and Debra Lee Turner in physical physi-cal education for Beaver High. At graduation this year, the diplomas will be awarded award-ed by William W. Firmage at Beaver High and Gary E. Sullivan at Milford High. Sandra Firmage, Mary Ann Lee and teacher Mel Osborn met with the Board. Mr. Osborn is the Journa- lism and English teacher at Beaver High and Mary Ann Lee is next year's editor of the school paper, the Beaver Bee. Sandra Firmage is this year's editor of the Beaver Bee. They requested the Board to aid in the purchase of an automatic stencil device de-vice made by Gestetner.The cost is $1785.00 and the school has raised $450 to the purchase of the machine. They approved $1 100 for the purchase of the stencil im -' aging machine and that the high school furnish the difference. dif-ference. He said that he would like to have the equipment for next fall, but he would take it piece at a time as the Board could see its way to purchase the costly equipment. equip-ment. Haslem introduced a Mr. Maxwell to the Board who presented a proposition to seal the playground of the elementary schools with a gilsonite seal product. Mr. Maxwell said that the sealing seal-ing of the playgrounds with the material he sells would cost about 1.8? per square foot and should be done every five years to maintain a good playground. The material prolongs the useful life of the asphalt. Approved. General Watts said, in a letter, that the projects using us-ing National Guardsmen must have a relationship to the job the men were attempting attempt-ing to learn. He could not approve using the men at the Minersville School to build a tennis court. Supt. They did not approve of the idea of being rated and having hav-ing the rating reflected in-their in-their salary. They have not asked for another meeting at this date. The Board then discussed in detail the custodian work loads at the various schools and the ratio of custodian to teaching stations in their buildings. It was moved that the Milford Elementary and Minersville School custodians custodi-ans be reduced to 6 hours per day and that Mr. George Sears be offered the assignment assign-ment to drive the school bus in Milford next year in adjustment ad-justment for the custodial time reduction. It was approved ap-proved by the Board. They authorized Donna Cartwright to attend the Environmental En-vironmental Workshop in Ephraim Canyon during the summer. The tuition for the workshop is $75.00 for the week. All other costs will be borne by the teacher. Supt. Haslem recommended recommend-ed that the 53 students from BHS and 32 from MHS be graduated, provided that each completes the requirements require-ments as recommended by the school principals. |
