Show LETTERS Dixie Leavitt -How do I know he is a supporter of this socialistic so-cialistic siphon? Toldme so; even admits to being the "father" of the Five County Association of Governments. Privately that is; publicly, maybe if enough people ask he might. Another typical supporter wrote a very objective unbiased un-biased letter to the editor on December 31, 1975 (letter not received by COUNTY NEWS). Please forgive for-give the sarcasm. It's not likely we will ever read a very objective or unbiased statement in defense of the FCAOG, written by someone reportedly being paid $20,000 per year to serve as the "Family Services Director"! Direc-tor"! Feeding at the public trough? You bet. Concerned that the "cow" might dry up? Likewise. Do I intend to put their minds at ease? Not on your life. Not as 'long as I am forced, through taxation, taxa-tion, to finance this regressive regress-ive arm of Big Brother. My children will be taught to do for themselves and to succeed in spite of the parasites para-sites that surround them and grow fat on the fruits of their labor. I remain yours for less government, Bill Reagan "The Law" by Frederic Bastiat letter to Sen. D. Bischoff l-10-'75 from Jack Crellin Ass't. Attn. General, State of Utah NEEDS MEMBERS The Milford Wildlife Protective Pro-tective Assoc. is actively seeking new members in their organization. The purpose pur-pose of the membership drive is to band together enough people who truly believe be-lieve the present practices of controlling our natural resources re-sources are becoming bogged down with bureaucratic bureau-cratic unjustices. Robert Merry weather, Chapter Sec, reports that "without active members we cannot hope to have a meaningful mean-ingful voice to make the government gov-ernment hear what we have to say. We need to let them know that we want what is best for the people of Utah and not what will benefit those who are paid with money mon-ey from Wash., D.C." The local chapter of WPA, with very few active members, mem-bers, accomplished much in 1975 towards this goal. They not only were heard throughout through-out the state on how the Big Brother concept is trying to take comm and, but provided many local projects to benefit bene-fit the area residents, some of which were: getting Min-ersville Min-ersville Reservoir open to Goose hunting, kept night rabbit hunting open, built an outstanding picnic area for small and large groups at the Big Rock picnic grounds, provided the community with a steak fry and it's first Annual Pork Barbecue, donated do-nated funds to State Assoc., and provided a subscription to their magazine totheMil-ford totheMil-ford Library. Dear Editor: Just how does a person set i about separating tl)e wheat t - from the chaff when the 4 12 ; County Association of Gov ernments is the topic? First j he might try the obvious of ! weighing arguments both pro j and con. Typical of the argu- I ments in favor of the I "F12CAOG" is the one that j goes thusly: "The FCAOG is providing a much needed j service." True! But, "So cialism, like the ancient , ! idea from which it springs, j confuses the distinction be - tween government and so-! so-! ciety. As a result of this, everytime we (Americanists) i object to a thing being done by government, the social-i social-i ists conclude that we object to its being done at all . . . It is as if the socialists were to accuse us of not wanting persons to eat because we do not want the state to raise j grain." f i ! When I use the term "so- 1,1 . cialist" I don't mean to at- i tack the intentions or the ' morality of anyone. Instead, I am attacking an idea which history has proven to be false; that is, that govern-J govern-J . ment and bureaucrats armed j with unlimited tax funds and j with Utopian dreams will i j somehow provide us with so- j j lutions to problems that in many cases have been creat- I I ed by the same do-gooders, j I Another argument for (?) I i I the FCAOG: "Why, it pro- vides us with local control. Isn't that what you conservatives conserva-tives claim you want?" One question; When Truman Bowler (Washington County Commissioner) and other elected individuals, not elected by Iron County residents, resi-dents, vote on programs effecting Iron County, is that local control? Many similar arguments supporting this illegal association asso-ciation could be similarly treated. Out of compassion for the reader who has slogged this far, I offer a different dif-ferent and perhaps simpler approach to the "threshing" of the problem. Askyourself this: What motivates the participants par-ticipants in this seemingly endless dialog concerning the merits of the "FCAOG"? What type of people have you found supporting this agency? Possibly they have been the people financing it. Not likely. like-ly. With few exceptions the most vocal supporters have been individuals feeding from this public trough. Also Al-so groups funded directly or indirectly by this tax glutton, shriek "unfair" if their handout is threatened. Businessmen, Busi-nessmen, ask yourselves this: Is my support (or opposition op-position to the FCAOG) influenced in-fluenced by its effect on my profit and loss statement, rather than the economic burden and loss of liberty left for my heirs? More supporters: Sen. These are just a few of the projects with just a hand -full of help. If we could double our present membership, we could be unbeatable. If you are interested and concerned about how you want to see things being done, urge you to become involved. To do nothing is to gain nothing no-thing twice. Interested persons per-sons can contact Bob Merry-weather, Merry-weather, 387-2772, or any member of the chapter for more information regarding membership, either active or sustaining. We need your voice! Our next meeting will be held January 28 in the Judges Chambers below the Library. Everyone welcome. |
