Show Holbrook Praises Science Foundation, Challenges Owens Utah Senate hopeful Donald Don-ald Holbrook praised the National Na-tional Science Foundation for awarding the University of Utah a $196,400 grantto conduct con-duct geothermal research. "Our people and technology technolo-gy are capable of great problem-solving ingenuity. I encourage en-courage Utahns to support such efforts," he said. Holbrook challenged Rep. Owens to debate him in a series of joint appearances. He said, "Owens seems reluctant re-luctant to face the electorate and debate the issues." He also charged Owens credibility, in the claim that "70 percent of the state democratic delegates are already al-ready committed to Owens." Holbrook said he thought the claim was rash and premature, prema-ture, since county conventions conven-tions were just beginning and most delegates had not been picked as yet. Owens, whose campaign treasury is in better shape than that of any other candidate, can-didate, according to finance disclosures, also shows that that most of his campaign money has come from out of state. Holbrook said, delegates shouldn't be stampeded to avoid a primary contest. The Democratic party is capable of withstanding a forthright open, and vigorous discussion. |
