TIGERS LOSE TWO IN OPENING PLAY The Tigers got off to a rough start in the 1970-71 basketball season with losses to Valley at Orderville and to Cedar City at home on Saturday night. Both teams proved to be tougher than expected, with Valley expected to rank high in state B class standings and Cedar City with a height advantage ad-vantage that Milford couldn't overcome. A round robin type tourney tour-ney will be played this Friday and Saturday at Milford with the Tigers competing with teams from Tabinoa, Duchesne and Dug' way. The game against the Buffalo's Buf-falo's was fairly close through the first half. Valley gradually pulled away in thje second half to win by an eleven point margin, mar-gin, 64-53. The Jr. Varsity won at Valley Val-ley 52-36 and controlled the ballgame all the way. A near capacity crowd turnei out Saturday night to see tbS local boys in action. It was not a terribly disaj-pointing disaj-pointing game even though tne Tigers dropped this one to Cedar City by a 64-45 score. Cedar had a height advantage that the Tigers couldn't overcome. over-come. Shooting from the flocr was sporadic and neither team really got hot. Scott Cook stood out on rebounds re-bounds and hit fairly well from the floor. The Jr. Varsity run into a snag against Cedar and it was height. The Tiger floor play was sparked by Chris Yardley who has lots of hustle and looked real good for the JV team. But superior height enabled Cedar to control the boards for a 6 point advantage in what was by far the best game of the evening. 51-45. |
