Show Milt Pool brought this in for u to read and we thought it worth a reprint. "What's this town called?" asked the traveler. "That depends," answered the native. "Depends o,n what?'' responded respond-ed the traveler. "On whether you have to live in this rundown, dirty dump," explained the native, "or if you're a tourist attracted by its picturesque scenery and quaint old-world charms." This brings to mind the fact that so often, if we will just stop and look at what's ours, from a neighboring point of view, we find we're not so bad off after all. With a large segment of our local population, religiously opposed op-posed to the drinking of coffee cof-fee and many more who would prefer a cool drink at the ball games, we wondered why there were no soft drinks at last Friday Fri-day night's football game. We heard many complaints along this line and feel that it would be well for the conces-sionairs conces-sionairs to give this their immediate im-mediate consideration. o We are gratified by the contributions con-tributions to the Letters to the Editor column. We feel that it is much better to get your gripes, ideas, opinions out in the open where some concrete good may come of them, than to continually air them over your backyard fence. Rarely is an achievement of any consequence con-sequence realized without the knowledge and acceptance of the general public. We are happy to offer you this medium med-ium to express your thoughts. o Unfortunately, the information informa-tion received by the printer was in error, when the Football Foot-ball and Basketball schedules in handy billford size were printed for Dewey's Diner. There were six basketball games which were indicated to be played either at Milford or away, which were the opposite. New schedules have been printed and you can turn in your old incorrect one for a new one by just stopping in at the Diner. If you haven't got one yet. They're free! Local archers report the deer small but the are having good fortune in filling their tags as the season got under way this past week. o Thanks to Mrs. Clarence Wil-cock Wil-cock and Mrs. Vilate Lang the Wilsons have feasted on fresh garden vegetables this past week. There's nothing like vine ripened tomatoes and fresh corn on the cob to whet an appetite. Thanks gals. o Local shooters report that the doves are a little shy this ear on opening day. Jay Hiatt claims there were plenty of birds but they shied away from his gun. Not as many birds and not as many hunters made for a slow opening. After we get this paper in the mail, we may try a shot or two ourselves, if someone will point us at the nearest waterhole. o Moving through the businesses business-es this week, making my usual rounds, I noticed the distinct lack of young people working as has been the case since we have been in town. School of course has taken them away from us again. More of us have to run our own errands and do more of the work ourselves. Monday is labor day, A good time to tell the youth of the city and our own, how much we appreciate what they have done this summer. Thanks kids, we miss you. |
