Show ILL WIND' LEADS TO ARREST OF TEXAS FUGITIVE A 25 year old Santa Barbara Calif., man was in Milford City jail Tuesday and it was all because of an "ill wind" late Monday afternoon. James Devine was arrested at midnight Monday night after aft-er Sheriff Mel Tait learned that he was wanted in El Paso, Texas, on charges of possession and transportation of marijuana. mari-juana. During the intense wind and dust storm Monday, Devine radioed ra-dioed the Federal Aviation Agency that he was landing at Beaver. When they received re-ceived no further word from him, they notified the Utah Highway Patrol, who notified Milford Airport Manager Ben Briscoe. The plane landed at the Milford airport about 5 p. tn., and Mr. Briscoe helped tie the plane down and transported trans-ported the pilot to town. The Highway Patrol later notifed Sheriff Tait they believed be-lieved the plane to be wanted, and Sheriff Tait, checking through the National Criminal Investigation Center in Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. learned that the pilot had taken off at El Paso just ahead of law enforcement officerj. ' Devine was arraigned before Justice of the Peace George Rich at Beaver, on charges of being a fugitive. Bond was set at $20,000, and the fugitve was returned to the Milford jail. He waived extradition and was held for Texas authorities. |
