Show BENNETT URGES 'EQUITABLE TREATMENT' FOR LEAD, ZINC Sen. Wallace F. Bennett has joined in sponsoring a bill to provide equitable treatment of lead and zinc industries in the United States. "The bill will provide effective effec-tive import quotas based on current industry conditions," Senator Bennett said. He also pointed out that the economic outlook for the lead-zinc industry in-dustry in ,the United States has improved along with the general economy in recent years , "Increased consumption has trimmed the excessive metal stocks on hand and thus encouraged en-couraged the domestic industry to reopen its mines, develop and produce new ore resources and expand smelting operations," opera-tions," Senator Bennett said. "Since this process Is going on all over the world, present favorable conditions could change in a very short period of time." "That is why we have constantly con-stantly urged that a sensible plan be devised to provide for an evenness in the market. This sort of stability could encourage en-courage economic growth and dependability on the part of the metal users, as well as on the part of the producers and foreign importers who supply a large part of the market," he added. |
