John E. Phelps, Director of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, urges fishermen going go-ing out for the June 3 opening weekend of the fishing season to use added caution to insure that no mishap occurs to mar their trip. The fishing opener scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd is a little doubtful in Beaver County, Coun-ty, with the reports on Minersville Min-ersville reservoir emphasizing the excellent new camping facilities fa-cilities which were just recently recent-ly dedicated, instead of the usual excellent fishing. Gill nets earlier in the year indicated that there were a lot of chubs, and trout were small and scarce. The usual onslaught of out-of-staters will probably accompany accom-pany the opening, and should enjoy the fine camping and expected fine weather, even if the fishing is spotty. With the early runoff, fishing fish-ing in the Beaver Mountains looks to be good for the opener, at least where there is enough water to stock fish. Streams are low and some smaller lakes are dry or nearly so, Puffer's though low, should hit its peak earlier than usual. What looks to be the best fishing, and least crowded is out west at the Garrison Reservoir, Res-ervoir, according to spokesmen who claim to know. It offers all types of bass. |
