Show BURTON (5BJECTS V; " TO "RUBBER STAJVTP" SPENDING PROGRAMS Congressman Laurence Burton Bur-ton said this week, "The people peo-ple of Utah deserve something other than rubber stamp approval ap-proval of Administration sponsored spon-sored spending programs. And this is what a majority ol Democrat members of the House of Representatives have done this year. The 88th Congress Con-gress is one of the biggest-spending biggest-spending Congresses of all time. I obviously felt compelled com-pelled to vote against many of these spending programs they were not in the best interests of Utah citizens and taxpayers, nor were they in the best in terests of other Americans. "Some classic examples of wasteful programs are Foreign For-eign aid, mass transit, the poverty program, the proposed pro-posed medicare plan under Social Security, the A R A, and others. "I think my opposliton to such programs is endorsed by my constituents they are tired of spending billions of dollars each year In remote areas of the world and in the major cities, and then in turn have the recipient nations na-tions publicly indicate to all the world that the assistance is not needed or wanted." Representative Burton continued: con-tinued: "Most Americans are not fooled by the 'poverty program' pro-gram' and recognize it as a political po-litical gimmick designed to garner votes all over the nation. na-tion. And they recognize that pork barrel programs are not designed to benefit all Americans, Ameri-cans, but simply to assist local candidates and the Administration Administra-tion in power in their campaign cam-paign for reelection." |
