Show Poppy -egf Day Wj SATURDAY IS POPPY DAY Saturday, " May 23, will be American Legion Poppy Day in Milford, according to Mrs. Alice Baxter, chairman. The crepe paper poppies which will be offered represent the official flower of The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. They are in memory of the dead and to aid the living, made by disabled veterans and sold to raise funds for aid to disabled veterans, their families, fami-lies, and orphans. The little flower is a replica of their famous ancestors, the blood-red popies of Flanders Field which took root and bloomed in the raw earth of battle graves, providing nature's na-ture's floral tribute to the heroic dead. No "campaign expenses" are deducted from the Poppy Day contributions. All -workers are unpaid volunteers, all publicity and advertising is donated. The entire profit of 100 is pledged by the Auxiliary to rehabilitation rehabilita-tion work and Child Welfare. Buy a Poppy on Poppy Day, May 23, and wear It proudly. |
