Show s FEDERAL SPENDING HIT $113.8 BILLION FOR 1983 FISCAL YEAR JUST ENDED Fresh ammunition for government economy advocates was provided by the official statement showing that Uncle Sam paid out during the 1963 fiscal year (ending on June 30) a massive total of $113,888,000,000 a jump over 1962 of $6,205,000,000. At the same time, the government collected $109,762,-000,000 $109,762,-000,000 from the public compared with $101,887,000,000 in 1962 leaving a deficit of $4,126,000,000 in 1963 and of $5,746,000,000 in 1962. These figures include trust fund receipts and expenditures expen-ditures for such things as Social Security and highway construction. ' ' So far as the regular or administrative budget is concerned, the Government spent $92,590,000,000 in 1963, a gain of $4,803,000,000 over 1962. Regular budget receipts were $86,357,000,000, an increase in-crease of $4,948,000,000. This resulted in a 1963 deficit of $6,233,000,000, compared com-pared with a $500 million surplus forecast by President Kennedy when the budget went to Congress in January, 1962. The rise of federal outlays and debt is staggering. Senator J. Glenn Beall (R, Md.) is understanding staggered at just how much $100 billion is. He notes: "Handing" out the sum of $144,190 every day, it would take you 19 centuries 1900 years to get rid of $100 billion which is approximately the amount the Administration Ad-ministration proposes to spend in one year." |
