Show Dear Steve: Noticed your comment in "I Dunno" regarding Thorpe Wad-dingham. Wad-dingham. I personally think Thorpe Waddingham has proved prov-ed himself in our State Capital; I approve of him as a man and as a Democrat, and I would sincerely like to see him re-elected to the Utah State Senate. I honestly think Beaver County Democrats should ask Thorpe to be a candidate for re-election, and if he is reelected, re-elected, I know he will be working for the good of Beaver Bea-ver and Millard Counties. I also agree with your statement state-ment that Thorpe is excellent gubernatorial timber, and Beaver Bea-ver County would do well to think about supporting him for that high office in 1964. If Thorpe Wadingham's name appears on the ballot as the Democrat candidate in the primary pri-mary or general election, I will personally support him and work hard for his election. Ray L. Kizer, Mayor Rudolph Nielsen, Chrmn., Beaver County Democrat Central Committee Milford, Utah Dear Rue and Fellow Committee Members: While I am unable to attend the meeting scheduled for July 5th, I feel very strongly on this subject and am therefore going to express my thoughts v on paper and beg each and every one of you to give serious ser-ious consideration to this matter. mat-ter. From time to time this year the question has arisen, whether wheth-er Beaver County should forget for-get the selection of Democrat candidate for state Senator, in favor of Senator Thorpe Waddingham Wad-dingham who we all know is beyond a shadow of doubt the most qualified person we could come up with this year plus the fact that he has a bettter than average chance of being successful. In addition to this, as has been pointed out before and only this week was mentioned in the Beaver County Coun-ty News, Senator Waddingham with another session in the Senate could well be the Democrat Demo-crat Party choice for Governor in 1964. This movement has been hampered by a dog in the manger attitude by some of our unthinking brothers. While they freely admit that there is no serious candidate for the office of-fice in Beaver County, still they adopt a selfish attitude that because it is Beaver County's Coun-ty's turn we must come up with a candidate. There is another group who feel, and I think erroneously, that if we give up our turn once we will never get it back. This is nonsense. If such a thing is possible there is no doubt the Millard County Democrats will do the honest thing. It must be pointed out however that re-apportionment is without doubt in the mill for the next legislature and while the state legislatures fail to act the Federal Courts may well force the issue. In that case, the present arrangement will be extinct anyway. Some have felt that we had to get the approval cf the Beaver County Republican Central Cen-tral Committee. We must recognize re-cognize that this agreement is not law and no one is bound to recognize it. To put it bluntly the Republicans have nothing to say about whom we run and certainly they are not going to approve Senator Waddingham Wad-dingham who is an odds on favorite to beat them. If I was present I would now take the floor and make a motion that we approve the candidacy of Thorpe Waddingham Wadding-ham for State Senator. Fraternally yours, Wesley S. Bolton |
