Preparations are underway for this event which will bring many hundreds of people from all over the Slate of Utah to St. George for these days. Andy Pace is in charge of the Convention Executive Committee, Com-mittee, with Marion Bowler and R. N. Ashby vice chairman. Verda Paice is Ladies Chairman. Chair-man. The various events planned include a mixer, under the direction of Neal Lundberg, Governors Banquet and Ball under Ray and Alice Whipple, Key Members Breakfast, Model Mod-el Luncheon, and President and Secretaries luncheon. There will be a necrology service, under the direction of Wilford and Susan Cannon put on by the Ephraim Lions Club. One of the highlights will be the Ladies Brunch to be held Saturday, May 6 at Snows Canyon, the new Dixie State Park. This will involve the Lady Lions who will be served breakfast in the canyon after being taken out there in buses from St. George. Marie Poehlmann is in charge of this project, and a program will be presented at that time. On Friday night there will be a barbecue in the city park which is expected to be one of the most popular events. The barbecue committee consists of of Mr. and Mrs. H. Val Hafen, Mr. and Mrs. Lindau Fore-master, Fore-master, and Mr. and Mrs. Alma Truman. Following the barbecue there will be a talent tal-ent show in the new Dixie College auditorium, sparked by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pickett and Mayor and Mrs. Bill Bar-locker. Bar-locker. Talent acts will come from all over Utah. the ages of 13 and 17 who have not yet qualified for Initial purchases of a hunting or combination hiJnting-fishing license under the terms of Utah law, were invited this week by Maj. Gen. Maxwell E. Rich, Utah Adjutant General! Gen-eral! to enroll in the Utah National Na-tional Guard sponsored Hunter Safety Program. Classes under the Guard directed program are of six week duration with new classes beginning each Friday evening in all National Guard armories arm-ories in 27 cities. Instruction offered covers all required subjects specified in the hunter hun-ter safety law which is administered admin-istered by the Utah State Department De-partment of Fish and Game. In addition basic fundamentals of competitive rifle shooting are taught. Instructors are qualified members of the Utah National Guard rifle and pistol team:; who possess qualifications for such duty from the National Rifle Association and the Department De-partment of Fish and Game. The six weeks course is presented pre-sented in three phases hunter safety, fundamentals of indoor and a competitive match. Subjects stressed the most 22 calibre rifle competition, are safe handling of firearms while hunting, transportation of weapons between home and field, transportation in boats and other vehicles in the field, safety in the hunting camp, weapons storage, care and cleaning of weapons. and fundamentals of marksmanship. marksman-ship. The course involves a $2.00 registration fe for each student stu-dent which covers use of a rifle, target, ammunition, hunter hun-ter safety shoulder patch, and a trophy for the winner of the competition in each class. |
