Five OCDM Youth Achievement Achieve-ment Certificates may be earned by groups or individuals, if their State organizations approve the certificates and wish to use them. State youth organizations who want their members to qualify for certificates are asked to make arrangements with their county and local units. State Civil Defense Director will sign and deliver certificates for presentation pres-entation to all youths who earn them. FARM YOUTH WILL TAKE ACTIVE ROLE IN CIVIL DEFENSE The Office of Civil Defense Mobilization has announced a new nationwide youth program designed to draw millions of boys and girla into active particpaton n Rural Civil Defense. OCDM is mailing from its Operational Headquarters in Battle Bat-tle Creek approximately 30,000 Rural Civil Defense Information Kits (K 12) which will be used to make benefits of the program available to members of more than 110,000 rural youth organizations. organi-zations. The program, which will give organizations and individuals the opportunity to earn OCDM Youth Achievement Certificates, was developed by OCDM.s Rural Activities Acti-vities Office with the assistance of national and state leaders and staff officials of 4 H Clubs, Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America, and other groups. "The purpose of the program is to help boys and girls do their share in America's Civil Defense mission of saving lives and property in event of nuclear war or natural disaster," explained ex-plained W.L. Shaffer, OCDM Rural Activities Director. "It is intended primarily for rural youth," he said, but he stressed that "the program may be used effectively by urban boys and girls." Through the cooperation of OCDM Regional and State Civil Defense Offices, the Rural CD Information Kits are being delivered to County Civil Defense De-fense Offices, County Extension Exten-sion Offices, and Vocational Agricultural Instructors in more than 3,000 counties throughout the Nation. Each county will have several kits which will be available for use by 4 H Clubs, FFA Chapters, FHA Chapters, and other youth organizations desiring to participate in the program. Each kit contains Rural Civil Defense texts and visuals, outlines out-lines for. three discussion meetings, meet-ings, basic reference materials, and a Leader's Guide which explains how to instruct and lead boys and girls in Civil Defense. Many activities are suggested for adoption as group or individual projects. All are related to Civil Defense education and awareness, aware-ness, farm and family protection measures, or support of the community and National efforts.
