Show BEAVER CHURCH NEWS The Beaver Stake girls' soft-ball soft-ball tournament was held in Beaver Monday and Tuesday of the past week, with Minersville coming out on top, and Beaver Third Ward finishing second. Trophies were awarded to Minersville, first place; Milford Second Ward, sportsmanship, and to Beaver First-Second Ward for the playoff title. A most interesting program was presented in the First Ward Sacrament meeting Sunday evening. eve-ning. John Nelson reported on the trip and encampment of the Scouts at Valley Forge, in which he participated, and his sister Doris played a piano solo. John R. Yardley then spoke on his experiences in the mission field. The meeting was conducted by Lavel Bradshaw of the bishopric. bish-opric. Farrell Lazenby, a returned missionary from the New England Eng-land States, was the featured speaker in the Second Ward Sunday evening. Johnny Horst-man, Horst-man, grandson of Cy Jones, favored with a song and Julia Ann Hatch, a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert White, played a piano solo and Vilda Smith sang a solo. Clark Smith of the bishopric conducted the services. The members of the Senior Aaronic Priesthood presented the program in the Third Ward. Talks were given by Floran Patterson and his wife, also by Bishop Walter Kerksiek and Walter Joseph of the High Council. Marlys Bohn played a piano solo and Bob Low, Jim Low, Nell Hutchings and Amy Brink-erhoff Brink-erhoff sang a quartet selection. A reading was given by Ann Swindlehurst. Speakers in the Manderfield Ward Sunday were Arlene and Glenda Edwards and Eugene Baldwin. Joyce and Janice Bradshaw sang a vocal duet. |
