Show I AROUND OUR j Ifciir.ii., j ...Jif.-.i i- - By GRANT ESPLIN Beaver County Agent Stopped in at the Brinkman potato shed the other day and was very much interested in seeing the concrete ditch-lining machine that Wayne Wiseman is building. Wayne is nearing completion of this machine, which is patterned after the one built by Henry Grimshaw in Enoch. The machine moves the dirt out, shapes the ditch and lays the concrete in one operation. opera-tion. Having this machine in the county will make it possible to concrete line more ditches. The West Side Irrigation Co. of Beaver lined two miles of canal several years ago. They save about 10 second feet of water by this lining. The Minersville Min-ersville Irrigation Co. and the Rocky Ford Irrigation Co. lined 19,000 feet of canal last spring. McCoy Williams, Howard Marshall Mar-shall and Clarence Gillins have all done some ditch lining on ther 'farms. . The concrete pipe making machine set up in Milford last fall will also be a big help in conserving water as more concrete con-crete pipe systems are installed on the farms of Milford Valley. Plans are to have this plant operating op-erating in the spring so that pipelines can be installed on the farms by irrigation time. Some farms that now have pipe line irrigation systems are Gene and Lloyd Mayer, Leo Mayer, H. L. Tolley, Waldo and Duane Yardley, and Carl Elmer. Projects such as this are carried car-ried on through cooperation with the Soil Conservation districts dis-tricts and Soil Conservation Service. The Soil Conservation Service does planning and engineering engi-neering work. Bard Blackham of Beaver is unit conservationist conservation-ist and Dan Klienman is engi-neerng engi-neerng aid. Loren Spencer of Cedar City, area engineer, supervises su-pervises the engineering and helps with this work. There are three Soil Conservation-districts in Beaver County, Coun-ty, each having five supervisors, and officers as follows: Milford district, Leo Mayer, chairman; H. L. Tolley,- secretary; Minersville Miners-ville district, Marshall Hollings-head, Hollings-head, chairman; Stan McKnight, secretary; Beaver district, Fred Harris, chairman; Doyle Twit-chell, Twit-chell, secretary. ' The ACP program helps farmers farm-ers pay for approved conservation conserva-tion practices. Keith Barton, Beaver County ASC office manager, man-ager, or B. Nowers, Jeff Marshall Mar-shall or Morgan Griffiths, county coun-ty ASC committeemen, can help farmer with this program. Any farmers who want to sign up on the acreage reserve program should do so at the ASC office on or before March 8th. For the conservation reserve re-serve the dealing for signing up for 1957 is March 15. Dr. Brooksby of Cedar City is testing all dairy cattle in Beaver County for TB. Notices are sent to each farmer telling him the day and hour his cows are to be tested. It is important tnat the farmer be present at this lime and have his cows locked up, as it saves a great deal of time. Dr. Brooksby injects cows on Monday and Thursday. The cows injected on Monday are checked on Thursday, and the cows injected Thursday are checked on Sunday. |
