Show THE WEBER HERALD December 14, 1932 All-Conference Fullback Weber Eleven Loses Intersectional Games Played Against Their Own Micks Page Four fiitl Bob Van Dyke The "flu" kept Bob Van Dyke out of most of the Santa Rosa game and all of the San Jose contest, but the Hawaiian fans learned why "Blasting Bob" was named all-conference fullback. His punting, passing and line plunging ability will make him a valuable asset to any senior college eleven. The old recorder will write that the Weber football team left Ogden November 21, to return December 21 after traveling some 7,000 miles over land and water. Santa Rosa Junior College's powerful squad made it four straight by trouncing our second and third teams on Thanksgiving day 19-7. A new relationship with the San Jose State Teachers College of San Jose, California, was inaugerated when their team downed ours two days later 20-0. Then that great little Neil Blaisdell team from the McKinley High School, Honolulu, Hawaii, battled brilliantly before 15,000 of their home folk to whip the wildcats 13-0, December, 10. As this issue of the Herald is on the press the Wildcats are playing their final game of the long 1932 season with the Kamehameha High School, Island champions and conquerers of McKinley, in a night tilt in Honolulu. From an account of games won and lost the present season does not appear so successful, but when one considers the splendid sportsmanship and true fighting spirt of our Weber team there is no doubt that Coach Stevenson is right in saying, 'although this team did not win its championship, it is one of the finest groups I have ever had the pleasure of associating with." "nil" Considerable attention was centered on these two tootball players when Weber College met McKinlev "Kaboola" High School, December 10, in Honolulu. Both Bill Baker and George Zane were in there fighting their hearts out for Weber, while only two years ago they fought equally as hard against Weber as members of the McKinley team. Bill, at center and George as a guard have both won their spurs on Inter-mountain All-Junior College selections, the highest distinction a Rocky Mountain J. C. gridder can attain. Last year these former. Micks were instrumental in helping Weber down their island alma mater 18-6. We'll always remember George and Bill as fighters and gentlemen.
