There was a connection with poor performance and disorderly conduct." Various students from the nine-student class complained to Hurst and Julander Friday about the extreme demands Dreijmanis had put on the class. According to student Louise Brown, Dreijmanis also asked the class not to bring their text books to class anymore, citing those who had them on their desks while he lectured did worse on his exam. "He said, 'I cannot forbid you to bring your book to class, but I encourage you not to,'" Brown said. "They were not listening," Dreijmanis said about the text books. "Students were trying to do two things at the same time." But students contend that much of the problem is with how the situation was handled. "He was just so angry," student Jane Colby said. "I couldn't handle him." The reason Dreijmanis asked the stu dents to move to seats away from each other was to eliminate talking and "disorderly conduct," he said. "I will step forward and say this is not true," Brown said. She said any talking that went on was to try to clarify what had been said, since he just moved here from Germany and has an accent. "Recreational, frivolous talk did not happen," she said. Some students also voiced concerns for even asking questions in class, stating he didn't like questions and would be short with them afterwards. "I didn't feel it was a very good learning environment," said Ozdowski. "He didn't like open discussion. He got annoyed with questions." "It was intolerable," Henderson said. Dreijmanis does have several courses of action he can take to contest the dismissal by filing a grievance, but has not done so yet. "I would prefer to keep my options open." r.IT,.,mm. ...,.....,..
