Show Wednesday, November 1, 2000 THE SIGNPO ST Page 7 Survivor continued from front memorable moments on the island. Hatch had a birthday while on the island and decided to spend the day in his "birthday suit." He walked the beaches in front of the cameras in the buff until many of the tribe members had enough. He was then gracious enough to cover himself, but not before the damage had been done. Hatch was well known for being the lone gay man on the island and the only one who could spear fish. Being able to provide food could be the reason Hatch survived the first few tribal counsels; It was definitely not his endearing personality. Dane LeBlanc. , The interview in which the suspect confessed was only a small part of WSPD's investigation. The police department had surveillance equipment set up in the building where several thefts were reported. This surveillance system showed a male removing $2. 50 in change from a desk drawer Oct. 24, according to police reports. During the interview, The suspect admitted to taking about 75 cents from a desk drawer on the first floor. LeBlanc said they later had a witness identify the suspect" who was shown stealing the change on tape. After gathering this video evidence, the police went to question Zielinski about these thefts. 'Through the surveillance, witnesses and the suspect's statement, we established the arrest," LeBlanc said. According to a police report, Zielinski said he stole some money from two desks in the Dean of Arts and Humanities office Oct. 24. He told police that he was going to pay the money back on payday, but he needed it to buy gas. He was not able to tell officers how much he took or where he had taken the money from. The total amount taken from the Dean s office, however, was reported to be $12. Zielinski is a suspect in some other unsolved theft cases which occured in the Browning Center.
