Show The Signpost May 18, 1992 ME Student recognized for published article BY SCOTT SHINER Senior reporter of The Signpost Few Weber State students, in the past five years, have had articles published in professional journals, said Ronald M. Mano, professor of accounting at Weber State University. But Gary Clark, a graduatestu-dent at Weber State did, and was recognized for outstanding scholarship at the Students Recognition Awards banquet, sponsored by the Alumni Association, Thursday night. "Students tend to be overlooked, and this is a way to recognize them for outstanding achievement," Bower said. Mano said he nominated Clark because of an article they co-authored that was published in Accounting Today, a professional journal. "In the past five years few students from Weber State have had an article published in a professional journal," Mano said. Some professors don't even get an article published during a five-year period, he said. To get the recognition, the student needed to be nominated by a member of the faculty, he said. The recognitions are not competitive in that all students who are nominated are recognized. Getting the nomination in the first place is not easily earned though, he said. The student needs to demonstrate that he has performed work that is not usual, he said. Clark was Mano's research assistant at Weber during the past year, and he said he was thankful for the opportunity to work with Mano. "I appreciate the award, and it's been a pleasure working with Dr. Mano because he's very knowledgeable and professional," Clark said. Besides the published article in Accounting Today Mano and Clark have written other articles together that have been submitted for publication. Clark plans graduate from Weber in June with a Master's degree in accounting. Time is running out!
