Bob has so many problems that even his problems have problems. Richard Dreyfuss stars as Dr. Leo Marvin, a famous psychiatrist, author, and, unknown to Leo, Bob's new best friend. The movie begins as Leo, who has agreed to begin seeing Bob, announces that he and his family are going on vacation until Labor Day. This idea horrifies Bob who views nis bi-weekly psychiatric visits with Leo as imperative to survival. Afraid of having to work out his problems alone, Bob and his pet goldfish, Gil, discover (through very devious means) the location of Leo's vacation hideaway. Upon arriving at Lake VVin-nipesaukee, New Hampshire, Bob makes short work of finding Leo 1 D "I ty7 I'j r WHAT ABOUT BOB? "71 Bill Murray stars as Bob Wiley, a quirky guy who enlists the help of his friend Dr. Leo Marvin, played by Richard Dreyfuss, a stressed-out shrink whose vacation is ruined when Bob shows up unannounced on his doorstep. and his family and soon Bob has found his way into the hearts of all but Leo. Leo, however views Bob's untimely visit as a gross violation of doctorpatient relations. To make matters worse, no matter what he says, Bob just can't get the hint that he's not wanted . In short, Bob is driving Leo off the deep end. "What About Bob?" is a comedy that deals with the universal need each one of us has, to belong and be loved. The film, directed by Frank Oz (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Little Shop of Horrors), is a little slow at first, but once it gets going, it is a frenzied exploration of one man's lunacy. One of the reasons this film works so well is because the lead actors have made a career out the the characters they play in this film. Bill Murray, as Bob, once again proves why he is one of Hollywood's most gifted comedians. As Bob, Murray succeeds in portraying a character who is both crazy, yet sympathetic. Richard Dreyfuss is also very good as Leo. Leo begins the movie as a slightly neurotic but kind and loving person and ends the movie in a straight jacket. It's the kind of role Dreyfuss does so well. Although the ending seemed Baez enjoying her time in garden Joan Baez marched with Martin Luther King Jr., toured with Bob Dylan's legendary Rolling Thunder Revue, and helped organize Amnesty International on the West Coast. The Queen of Folk has been crusading for others since 1962. Today at 50, a more introspective Joan Baez performs only occasional weekends. Perhaps it's no wonder she's thinking the title for a sequel to her 1987 memoirs will be, "Would You Believe?" For a year and a half, she's been in 12-step groups dealing with family relationships and her childhood. That Quaker voice is telling her to listen to that still, small, inner voice. She's moved away from traditional therapy to explore the concept of the "inner child" through 12-step programs modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous. Baez considers such programs an "incredible" social movement.Though she's finding time to work on a new album, the first since "Speaking of Dreams" was released in 1989, she finds puttering in the garden most nurturing. "I haven't seen seasons change around my house in 20 years," Baez says. "I don't think I've had the time to ever work on an album." She says she's striving to write new music less topical, more universal, like the songs of Bob Dylan. Her followers may not expect new music, but many expected her to be on the front line of protest during the Persian Gulf War. Instead, she was taking time for loan. "This is a hard one for me ... People have said, 'Hey, why aren't you being Joan of Arc during the Persian Gulf War?'-" Not that she doesn't have her (See BAEZ page 13) a n a n 7M rrr irjrsnc? ) the copy center Not Just Copies Full Self Service Copies j Canon Color Laser Copies!
