Last but not least is Howard Taylor who, among other things, is known for his subtle sense of humor. According to the Arista Records release," The Hollow Men also confess to enjoying sex, having a weakness for Margaritas and incessant late night shopping." The Hollow Men have created a marvelous album. Not only does their music contain artistic unity, but it also carries a central theme of musical spontaneity and an element of awareness. GHOST (continued from page 8) he finds out who killed him. Performances were excellent, but you will love Whoopie Goldberg as the wacky psychic. She'll really "move your spirits" and the special effects were fabulous. It appears the producer and director may have done a little research on life after death experiences, perhaps. I'ts a story of unearthly love, romance, lust for money, and betrayal. There is a sense of justice because the bad guys find out that crime doesn't pay. The Crifters" is the first film produced by Martin Scorsese's production company, and the first American project for highly regard English director Stephen Frears. The result is subtle, bleakly amusing, and risky, as we follow the exploits and relationships of a trio of grifters (con artists.) They are a young, relatively small-time hustler named Roy (John Cusack), his more experienced, estranged mother, Lily (Anjelica Huston), and his sexy, conniving and greedy CENSORSHIP a copy of "Grcndel" I was disappointed. It just isn't around. I first tried the Weber County Library and its two branches only discovered their copies of "Grendel" were currently out. I tried B Dalton in the Newgate Mall. Leigh Armistead, the supervisor on charge when I called said that there has been several people inquiring about the book and that they too were out of it but were willing to order it. Tim Chase, at The Bookshelf, said that the debate had spurred sales of the book. He, likewise, is currently out of the book but has reordered and is expecting more on girlfriend, Myra (Annette Bening.) It seems a con artist is not above trying to hustle other con artists, and though blood may be thicker than water, it's not as thick as cold, hard cash. Cusack and Bening are both believable and interesting as the scheming young lovers, but I Inston walks off with the film as a tough-as-nails, blond-haired woman who's about as far removed from conventional motherhood as any woman you're likely to encounter. Director Frears can be credited with presenting Huston with stark, blond hair. I le said she needed it to counter her natural, regal bearing. But everything else about the performance the ambition, the fear, the emotional confusion of a woman caught bet ween mothering and hustling her son, and the lurid (continued from page 7) Wednesday. Vicki Bitton, assistant manager of the Walden bookstore in the Ogden City Mall, said they were out and had reordered only to find that the publisher was all sold out. She didn't know when they were going to be restocked but felt confident that the publisher would surely reprint it. Like the buzz made over the "Satanic Verses" not so long ago, we are witness the same zealous frenzy that gripped the Muslim world -although on a much smaller scale. In fact, "The Crifters" is being given a one-week-only December opening in just a few major markets, in part so Huston will be qualified for Oscar consideration. She deserves a nomination. 'The Crifters" is a downbeat, moody motion picture; a fascinating, if somewhat-disturbing look at a seamy side of life; and an engrossing character study. It won't appeal to everyone, but if you like stories and emotions served up in hard-boiled fashion, you, too, will be taken in by'The Grifters." By JACK GARNER Copyright 1991, USA TODAY Apple College Information Network emotions of a few operating on only partially founded allegations can so unwittingly stir up the feelings of the masses to further their own interests. I don't think this particular incident will create any lasting impressions on the secondary education system of Utah, but nevertheless it bears watching to ensure that this doesn't happen in the future. Most ironic of all is the fact that all the ballyhoo the disgrunted parents have stirred has only served to increase interest and sales of the book which surely was what those parents least wanted.
