His latest venture, based on a book by Edwin Torres, is named after ths official transcripts records into internal police affairs. The casting is effective. Nick Nolte gained weight to play a big, intimidating man, policoLt. Mike Brennan. It was Brennau who killed the man when the movie started. He thinks he has a reason for each of his unethical actions, considering it is his duty to kill minorities since he feels they cause so much crime within the inner city. Brennan is scary as a racist who beats people mercilessly in the back alley, but doesn't understand why these same people retaliate viciously. The movie is essentially about Reilly and his search for truth. Hutton never overplays his part but maintains a direct and quiet simplicity. Named "Choirboy" by some of the other characters, Reilly's uncovering of the truth gradually strips his innocence away. Reilly is handed Brennan's "self-defense" case as his first because the case is"cut-and-dried." As Reilly uncovers the facts, he must face up to his own past and his own racism. His father also served on the force and Reilly must confront that ghost as other police tell him the reality behind his father's distinguished at odds In the movie "Q&A." Armand Assante plays Bobby Texadore as the one who supplies Reilly with the facts abou- the case. As a drug dealer with a heart of gold and the one character who is not prejudiced, Texadore supplies the movie with an ambiguous presence. USSR (continued from page 5) mosaic illustration of the earth, he includes a tongue of fire to indicate the threat of atomic destruction. Carter says Soviet scientist V.I. Vernadskey influenced his ideas about the biosphere. Vernadskey emphasized the need for harmonious development and peaceful coexistence and a protective attitude toward the environment. "I think the most important thing is to recognize we live in space and to change the way we live so we can survive," Carter says. In addition to showing his works at Soviet galleries, Carter has exhibited at Spaso House, the 21 years or older Apply at all Flying J Stores All shifts available Good benefits Advancement opportunity to- to- i Assante gives the character dignity and strength which point to Brennan's and Reilly's flawed personalities. The Hispanic person Brennan shot is Texadore's best friend, and Texadore wants revenge. He also wants out of the drug business because of his love for his girlfriend, Nancy Bosch. The love interest complicates an already tangled plot and is the film's one serious flaw. Nancy Bosch, played by Jenny Lumet, was Reilly's lover six years ago. That ended when Reilly realized he had been dating someone half-black. The look on his face frightened Bosch and she deserted him. Now she walks back into Reilly's life as the the common-law wife of Texadore. Reilly keeps trying to talk to her but she refuses him. The romance is director Lumet's attempt at offering a slender thread of hope to the viewer that prejudice might be overcome, but the plot seems to be manufactured with the implausibility that Reilly's first case would also involve the one (See Q&A page 7) residence of the U.S. ambassador in Moscow. In mid-March, he displayed 20 glass and stone sculptures in conjunction with an exhibit of U.S. art of the 20th century. As well as working privately, Carter is an artist in residence at Finland's oldest glass factory, Nuutajarvi-Iittala. The company is creating glass sculptures for architectural designs. Carter has studied in Italy, France, Finland and the United States. His work is in the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C., and in the Pinacotecca Comunale di Ravenna, a fi ne arts museum in Ravenna, Italy.
