With only eleven seniors on the team; Weber will have one of its youngest teams in history. Spring workouts will be extremely important, as Price wants to find out early who can play and who can't play. Even though the team will be young, there are still some experienced players looking to lead the team. Weber has 26 letterman returning, with eight starters coming back. Weber will have the services of 34 junior college transfers, and 1 1 redshirts to add to the returning players from last year. There will be 12 other squadmen returning plus three players who are returning from LDS missions. One of the keys for Weber this year will be the offense -and particularly the quarterback position. Price wants to find out early who his quarterback will be, and all of the prospects will get a long look. Coach Price lost 13 let-termen and four starters off his offensive unit, including first team All-Big Sky Conference performers Dennis Rogan (RB) and Sam Slater hnhnnR ta E3 sa tai O O tal Si (OT). Rogan led the team in both rushing (140 rushes for 613 yds. -7 TDs) and pass receiving (52 catches for 503 yds-0 TDs), averaging 111.6 yards of All-Purpose yardage per game. Slater, the mammoth 6-8, 275 offensive tackle, was a four-year starter along the offensive front and shoud be a high draft choice in the upcoming NFL draft. Also gone are second team member Terry Magee (FL), who caught 35 passes for 471 yards and two touchdowns, and Tim Bernal (QB), who completed 218 of 383 tries last fall for 2,738 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 248.9 yards per game passing. He tied the Big Sky Conference record for most passes completed in one game with 37 against Idaho State. With the departure of Bernal (graduation) and of backup Dave Crit-chlow (LDS Mission), the quarterback position is wide open. Kevin Villars (6-4, 205 Jr.) red-shirted this past season after transferring from Northwestern University where he started as a freshman. Villars practiced all last fall and has a good knowledge of the system as does Tony Michelson (6-01, 185 So.) Dave Stireman (6-2. 205 Jr. Hartnell JC) and Phil Cooper (6-2, 215 Jr. Santa Ana JC) are both new this spring, but each has an exceptional arm. Stiremen, like Villars and Michelson, is more of a roll-out type passer and broke many of Ber-nal's records at Hartnell Junior College. Cooper is a straight drop back passer like Bernal and Milt Myers. - t 'v J - ' . ' .. . - . v,".-f Mr "Our quarterback situation will dictate our offensive scheme," Price says.
